Police in Kampala have arrested National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine for engaging in a protest calling for the release of his party supporters’ detention.
Bobi Wine’s arrest happened at the City Square in the capital Kampala.
He and his party leaders carried placards with images of supporters detained by security agencies.
The singer-turned-politician lost the January 14 presidential election to incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
But Bobi Wine claimed he was rigged out, and declared peaceful protests. He says he polled 54 per cent of the total votes cast.
Interestingly, Museveni also claims Bobi Wine cheated him.
By publication time, police was holding Bobi Wine and others at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
“The arrested eight are now recording statements but the Central Business District is peaceful and calm,” said Enanga, adding that the protesters face charges of holding an unlawful procession.
