FDC Pays Tribute to Dr James Garuga Musinguzi

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has paid tribute to Dr James Garuga Musinguzi, a businessman and one of the founders of the party.

Dr James Garuga Musinguzi breathed his last at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

He was aged 72.

The FDC, led by Patrick Oboi Amuriat, praised Dr Garuga Musinguzi for his commitment to the FDC’s efforts and to the country’s democratic struggle.

Garuga was “not only a distinguished entrepreneur and community leader, but also a committed political actor whose contribution to Uganda’s democratic struggle, particularly in the formative years of the Reform Agenda and the birth of the FDC,” the party further noted.

Forum for Democratic Change also hailed Garuga Musinguzi for financially supporting the party at a time looked risky for businesspeople to align with those opposed to President Yoweri Museveni.

“As Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Reform Agenda, Garuga played a vital role in shaping the foundation of what would later become the FDC, offering both moral and financial support when few dared to do so,” the FDC noted in a statement announcing Dr Garuga Musinguzi’s death.

“As a party and as a country, we have lost a man of rare courage, wisdom, and generosity. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
