A political storm is brewing within Uganda’s ruling establishment after Norbert Mao accused Speaker Anita Among of disrespecting President Yoweri Museveni, following her remarks about “guests” seeking to enter what she described as the “NRM bedroom” — in reference to the speakership of Parliament.

As the race unfolds, Mao’s challenge — framed in his pointed question, “Who are you?” — continues to shape the debate over legitimacy, political inclusion, and authority within the ruling party and Parliament at large.

“We do cooperate with other political parties,” she said, “but the cooperation doesn’t mean that you come up to my bedroom; you remain in the compound.”
