Angela Markel, Bobi Wine and Museveni. Angry Bobi Wine's NUP supporters force Germany Embassy to delete Chancellor Angela Markel congratulatory message to Museveni
The Germany Embassy in Kampala has deleted social media posts carrying Federal Chancellor Angela Markel’s congratulatory message to Uganda’s Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni on his re-election and sixth term swearing-in ceremony.
The embassy shared the message May 10, angering Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters.
Germany sends clear message to Bobi Wine in letter to Museveni ahead of swearing-in ceremony
The Germany Embassy in Kampala threatened to block those spreading hate speech in comments on the post on Markel’s congratulatory message to Museveni.
“Hello followers. We are getting a lot of criticism for this post. That’s ok, we respect and tolerate freedom of speech in Germany. But we don’t tolerate hate speech. Hate is not an opinion,” read a warning by the Embassy.
“We expect our users to use common courtesy in their comments. If you use offensive or threatening language, we will delete your comment and/or block you from our page.”
But Bobi Wine’s supporters got more angry and reminded the embassy of Hitler’s sins.
With Bobi Wine’s social media warriors sharing images of the history of Hitler’s brutality, and hurling more insults at Markel, the embassy deleted the messages.
