BLACK SATURDAY! 12 People Confirmed Dead in Two Separate Accidents

A total of 12 people have perished in two separate road accidents on Saturday, May 14, raising more concern on safety on the country’s roads.

The first accident, in which five people were killed, happened in Masindi District. A truck which was carrying over 60 casual laborers from the Kinywamurara Camp to a sugarcane plantation belonging to Kinyara Sugar Limited overturned at the Ikoba Junction along the Masindi-Hoima Road.

Besides the five people who died, several other casual laborer sustained serious injuries and are being treated at the Masindi District Hospital as well as the Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, depending on the severity of the injuries.

The second accident happened in Bukomansimbi District, leaving seven people dead and several others injured. The driver lost control of a Fuso truck Registration Number UAX 226U, which eye witnesses said was over speeding, leaving the vehicle to overturn at Kanoni village, Butenga Sub County in Bukomansimbi District.

The passengers, estimated to have been 20 in number, were said to be from Nyendo in Masaka and were going to a market. The injured were rushed to Villa Maria Hospital for treatment.

Barely two weeks ago, an accident involving a Link Company bus killed 20 people and left many others nursing wounds. (Read Story Here).
