Opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is expected deliver an address at the EU Parliament during the ongoing fifth edition of the Africa Week organized by the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group.
Being hosted in Brussels, Belgium, the event will host European and African personalities, politicians, young people and representatives of civil society joining us to discuss and outline the common future regarding Africa-EU relations.
Bobi Wine is one of the special guest speakers at the event. Others are: Dr Ayoade Olatunbosun-Alakija, co-chair of the African Union’s African Vaccine Delivery Alliance; Prof Petro Terblanche, Managing Director, Afrigen; EU Commissioners Jutta Urpilainen and Helena Dalli, for International Partnerships and for Equality respectively.
Bobi Wine was already in Brussels for the event.
“This morning, I am at the European Parliament in Brussels where I’ll be speaking at the S & D fifth annual Africa Week Conference,” he said.
He is expected to criticize President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s human rights record, alleged undermining of democracy, as well as handling of the Covid19 pandemic.
While his supporters were quick to congratulate their leader, Bobi Wine’s ‘haters’ claimed he was meeting his donors to tarnish the image of Uganda.
The EU has previously on several occasions rebuked Museveni. But the elderly Ugandan leader has also fired back at them. (Read story here).
