Christopher Okello Onyum Told Police Surgeon Reason for Killing Four Children, Revealed Secrets on Killing Step-Brother, Plan to Kill Himself

Police surgeon and deputy director of police health services, Dr Emmanuel Nuwamanya, has told court that murder suspect Christopher Okello Onyum personally disclosed the motive behind the killing of four children at a Ggaba daycare centre, saying it was driven by fortune hunting and enrichment.

The testimony forms part of the prosecution’s case as it seeks to establish intent and state of mind in the high-profile trial that has drawn significant public attention.

Proceedings are being conducted in a public setting at the Ggaba Community Church grounds, where members of the public have been allowed to follow the case closely.

Dr Nuwamanya appeared as the tenth prosecution witness as the state intensified efforts to secure a conviction against Okello over the killings at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program in Kampala.

In his testimony, the police surgeon revealed that Okello had directly explained to him why he committed the killings, indicating that the motive was tied to fortune hunting and personal enrichment.

Part of his inspiration, Okello reportedly told Nuwamanya (according to the police surgeon’s account), was from folk tales he heard as a child which linked wealth to human sacrifices.

When asked whether the suspect’s explanation could have been influenced by a mental health condition, Dr Nuwamanya dismissed the possibility, telling court that he did not believe Okello’s actions or statements were a result of mental illness.

The police surgeon also claimed that Okello had informed him that he killed his brother years ago and that he had considered killing himself, too.

Days after Christopher Okello Onyum made these shocking revelations to Nuwamanya, he pleaded not guilty to killing the Ggaba children, insisting he was not the one behind the crime that shook the nation, as reported Here.

On Friday, police surgeon spoke about Okello’s mental history and hallucinations, as reported Here.

Meanwhile, another medical report revealed that suspect Christopher Okello Onyum suffers from Sickle Cell Disease and that he had missed medication for sometime, as reported Here.

Christopher Okello Onyum’s landlords have also testified, with one telling court that the suspected killer loved children, as detailed Here.

The state has also reportedly picked interest in allegations that Christopher Okello Onyum killed his step mother’s child years ago, as reported Here.

The trial of Christopher Okello Onyum was adjourned to next week after thunder and rain disrupted it on Friday, as reported Here.
