Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has confirmed that two of its members who were part of Omoro County by-election campaign team have been killed in a May 21 accident.
The deceased have been identified as Denis Waiswa from Iganga as well as Yakubu Kiggundu from Kawempe. Other members of the campaign team sustained serious injuries.
“The National Unity Platform has learnt with great sadness and shock, of an accident that occurred on the road towards Kumi from Iganga, involving some of our comrades. The car was traveling to Omoro to join our campaign team,” said the Kamwokya-based party in a statement on the matter.
“We have so far learnt that two of our comrades and leaders, Waiswa Denis from Iganga and Yakub Kiggundu from Kawempe, have passed on.As we wait to get more updates, may we all keep praying for the rest of the comrades to cover through from the injuries sustained.”
NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi added: “As we approached Omoro for Toolit Simon’s campaigns, we learnt that one of the cars coming to join us got involved in an accident. Sadly, Yakubu Kigundu and Denis Waiswa died.Others got injuried and were rushed to hospital. We pray for their recover.”
