CONFIRMED: Joel Ssenyonyi Falls in Things as Bobi Wine Fires Mpuuga as LoP

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has fired Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba as leader of opposition in Parliament (LoP). Bobi Wine replaced seasoned Mpuuga with first time legislator Joel Ssenyonyi.

According to an announcement by NUP Secretary General, Mpuuga is now a commissioner of Parliament.

Mpuuga has been LoP since 2021 after political newbie Bobi Wine led his NUP party to eclipse the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) as the main opposition party.

The mid-term reshuffle comes as Mpuuga was beginning to change his stance from politics of diplomacy to activism. His last campaign was a parliamentary boycott over missing NUP supporters.

Mpuuga had blasted journalists for reporting what he did not like. (See Details Here).

He also previously disagreed with Bobi Wine, his boss. Mpuuga even said Bobi Wine could not force his orders down his throat. (Read Story Here).

Most recently, in an attempt to toe Bobi Wine’s line, Mpuuga seemed to parrot the principal’s allegations on Shs100m bribes for MPs to pass a supplementary budget. (See Details Here).

Ssenyonyi, 37, is the Nakawa West MP. He has been the NUP spokesperson and chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises (Cosase).

One of Ssenyonyi’s major investigations as Cosase boss was the probe into Uganda Airlines where he exposed CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki’s lack of academic papers. The expose led to the firing of some Uganda Airlines’ bosses and threats on Ssenyonyi’s life. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
