President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has reappointed Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile as Bank of Uganda (BoU) governor, and Martins Okoth Ochola as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Mutebile, 71, has been central bank governor since 2001, and will has served 25 years by the end of his new term.
On the other hand, Ochola replaced his hitherto boss Gen Kale Kayihura who Museveni sacked in 2018.
While news of Mutebile’s reappointment broke mid-January, Ochola’s job has been hanging in balance over the handling of the November 2020 riots.
In December, Museveni even fired Ochola’s deputy Maj Gen Steven Sabiiti Muzeeyi over the matter.
Parliament’s appointments committee is today set to vet Mutebile and Ochola at 12 noon and 12:30, respectively, according to a notice acting clerk to Parliament Paul Wabwire sent to committee members on March 10.
