Main opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has responded to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s statement on his call for reopening of schools.
Last week, Dr Besigye called for reopening of schools, reasoning that most of the learners were not at high risk of succumbing to Covid19.
For almost two years now, the Covid19 pandemic lockdowns have disrupted the academic calendar.
In his July 30 address, President Museveni allowed reopening of medical schools and other health training institutions.
But he insisted all teachers and learners, including those below the age of 18, must be vaccinated before reopening of schools.
UNICEF has advised that vaccination should not be a precondition for school reopening. (See: Here’s why Museveni Should Drop Vaccination of Primary, Secondary Level Learners as Condition for School Reopening).
But Museveni has rejected both the advice of UNICEF and Dr Besigye, his former personal physician. (SeeSCHOOL REOPENING: Museveni finally responds to Besigye).
The four-time presidential candidate has now reminded Museveni his ideas on the reopening of schools are “not just a “K-B” position!”
K-B is short for Kizza Besigye.
Extracted here too is the reference given by writer of the article- I wonder whether he read it.
“Our plan has been fully supported by the joint statement of UNICEF and UNESCO at the 2021 Global Education meeting,” he said.
He then insisted that President Museveni tables his reopening plan if he is opposed to the position of UNICEF and UNESCO.
“What’s the plan of those who don’t want schools opened now, since no vaccine exists for age 0-12 years?” he asked.
