President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his wife and minister of education and sports Janet Museveni have gifted retiring Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Denis Onyango a car for his service to the country.
Museveni and first lady Janet invited Onyango to State House Entebbe on May 06 to honor him.
Onyango recently retired from the national team after leading it to two Afcon encounters.
Why Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango retired
Museveni and Janet handed over the Pajero sport car to Onyango who had come alongside his mother Olivia.
Onyango accepted the gift and thanked Museveni for his generosity.
He reiterated he had chosen early retirement to pave way for younger talent.
The president noted that people like Onyango were still useful to the nation even after retirement from sporting activities.
Museveni promised scholarships for retiring sportsmen to train in other fields of their choice so they could be absorbed into the civil service.
