Thomas Tayebwa
Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa has vowed to stand as an independent in the deputy speaker election scheduled for May 24 at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Tayebwa lost to Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among in the ruling NRM parliamentary caucus election at State House Entebbe on May 23.
Results released by NRM Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Dr Fred Tanga Odoi showed Among had polled 168 while Tayebwa got 149 votes.
Anita Among beats Tayebwa, Rwakoojo to become NRM Caucus choice for 11th Parliament speaker
But Tayebwa said he would run as an independent.
He joins the ‘NRM Defiance Gang’ that now includes outgoing speaker Rebecca Kadaga, and their supporters, MPs who might defy the party’s positions to vote independents.
