Details Emerge as ‘Abducted’ Besigye Lawyer’s Whereabouts are Revealed, Home Searched by Military Men

Men believed to belong to the UPDF, Uganda’s national army, abducted Maj (Rtd) Ronald Iduli, one of the members of Dr Kizza Besigye’s legal team, Counsel Eron Kiiza has told President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s military court, the General Court Martial based in Makindye in the capital Kampala.

The whereabouts of Maj (Rtd) Iduli have now been identified as Bulenga Police Post in Wakiso District, the Uganda Law Society (ULS), said on December 10.

The suspected UPDF officers who ‘abducted’ Iduli picked him from his home in Bulenga and are said to have broken into his house at about 5pm, according to Kiiza.

ULS sent legal aid advocate Obadiah Kamukama to check on Iduli, assuring him that they would stand with him. Iduli narrated to them that he was yet to be formally charged but confirmed that his home had been searched with the military men taking a book, military uniform, and some clothes.

That the OC told him he faces charges of threatening violence, with his landlord reportedly named among the complaints. That when the military men came to his house, they handcuffed him, inquired about his relationship with the army and that he produced his discharge certificate to prove that he was a retired army officer.
