Cartoonist, activist and academic Dr Jimmy Spire Ssentongo has spoken out on reports that his brother Dr Spire Kiggundu was shot and dumped at a location where his body was discovered.
Since the news of the sudden passing of Dr John Spire Kiggundu, some people had begun speculating that the medical doctor had been kidnapped and killed for his brother Ssentongo’s political views.
Dr Ssentongo is an activist whose works and social media exhibitions carry biting criticism of the Museveni regime of nearly four decades.
But the Makerere University professor has described the claims that his brother Dr John Spire Kiggundu was kidnapped and shot dead as harmful disinformation.
“Though it may not be the right time amidst grieving, I just want to dispel of the harmful disinformation circulating around Dr John Spire Kiggundu’s sudden death: 1. It is NOT TRUE that he was shot and dumped in a trench,” wrote Ssentongo.
He also made it clear that Dr John Spire Kiggundu was “WAS NOT kidnapped by anyone” and that “it is NOT TRUE that he was killed by anyone for political or other reasons.”
Ssentongo further noted that a “credibly done” post-mortem report had indicated that Dr Spire Kiggundu “died of a heart attack and was only found a day after.”
