Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), has today confirmed that science teachers, scientists and all health workers will have their salaries increased starting July 2022.
In his budget speech delivered at Kololo in Kampala on June 14, Minister Kasaija made it clear that government will fulfil its promise of increasing salaries of all scientists.
Although the budget speech contained Shs495bn as the figure for the enhancement of salaries for all scientists, health workers and science teachers, Minister Kasaija at one point mention that the figure was as big as Shs900bn.
“The salaries of medical workers, scientists and science teachers have been enhanced by Shs495 billion,” read the budget speech in part.
Kasaija noted that government was optimistic that the increment would improve service delivery in the health and education sectors.
“In addition to incentivizing scientists, this will also help to improve functionality of education and health facilities by addressing absenteeism and low morale of personnel,” said Kasaija.
The minister also challenged those whose salaries have been increased to offer better services.
“To the Ugandan scientists and health workers, government has fulfilled its commitment to enhancing your pay. Ugandans expect better services in return,” he warned.
