FINALLY! Supreme Court Reveals the Time When it Will Deliver Presidential Election Petition Judgement

The Supreme Court of Kenya has revealed the time when it will deliver its verdict in the 2022 presidential election petition.

Last Friday, the seven judges of the Supreme Court led by their president Chief Justice Martha Koome retreated to write their judgement at the end of hearings in which petitioners and respondents argued their cases.

Possible determinations include the upholding of the election of deputy president William Samoei Ruto as the validly elected president of the Republic of Kenya, a verdict that would see him sworn in as the fifth president on September 13, 2022.

The other likely ruling is for the nullification of the presidential election results and ordering that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should conduct a fresh poll within 60 days.

Now, the judgement on Presidential Election Petition No. E005 OF 2022 (as consolidated with presidential petition Nos. E001, E002, E003, E004, E007 and E008 OF 2022) between Raila Amolo Odinga & 6 Others (the Petitioners), and William Ruto & 10 Others (The Respondents), and Law Society of Kenya and 2 Others (The Amici Curiae) is expected in a matter of hours.

According to the notice of delivery of judgement which was issued by Letizia M Wachira, the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Kenya, on Monday morning, the judges will deliver their ruling at midday.

“TAKE NOTICE that the judgment in this petition will be delivered on Monday the 5th day of September, 2022 at 12.00 noon at the Supreme Court of Kenya Milimani Law Courts,” announced Registrar Wachira.

On Sunday, William Ruto said he was confident the rule would rule in his favour and that Uhuru Kenyatta should be ready to hand over office to him. Reports had claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta had moved his private cars and other properties out of State House to pave way for William Ruto. (Read Stories Here and There).
