A Tanzanian police officer threatened to force himself on Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire and swore he would impregnate her, Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi has claimed as more shocking stories from a Tanzania torture chamber continue to come out.
Mwangi and Atuhaire were arrested and detained in a torture chamber in Samia Suluhu’s Tanzania where, like in neighboring Uganda and in Kenya, cases of forced disappearances have been reported as the dark days return to East Africa.
The activists had gone to Tanzania to stand in solidarity with opposition leader and Suluhu’s fierce challenger Tundu Lissu who has insisted there should be no elections in October if there are no electoral reforms.
Lissu faces treasons charges – like Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye – symbolic of political persecution in the region.
Agather Atuhaire was dumped at the Mutukula border point at about 2am on Thursday, May 23, 2025.
Agora Discourse’s Dr Spire Ssentongo said Agather Atuhaire’s kidnappers “blindfolded her, stripped her n@k€€d, took nuԱd€ photos of her, insulted and tortured her, denied her food, stole all her money and phone, and, four days later, dumped her 2km before reaching the border with Uganda (Mutukula) at about 2am without any money or phone on her.”
Mwangi confirmed that indeed the torture include being stripped n@k€€d and being ordered “to go bathe.
“We couldn’t walk and were told to crawl and go wash off the bl00d,” wrote Mwangi.
The Kenyan activist also accused a Tanzanian police officer he identified as Faustin Mafwele for threatening to “r@@p€ Agather Atuhaire “and ensure he gets her pregnant with a daughter since Agatha said she is a mother of two boys.”
Agather Atuhaire has faced troubles for her activism, including from top Ugandan politicians and other activists, as reported Here, There and Over There.
But she has been recognized by the EU and US as well as Time Magazine for her boldness. (See Details Here and There.
