INTER-DISTRICT TRANSPORT BAN: Government issues guidelines for workers commuting between districts

Workers residing outside districts where they work have been advised to get temporary accommodation around their workstations since no travels whatsoever will be allowed with effect from today.

Last week, President Museveni ordered that there would be no inter district movements for both public and private locomotives.

The ban would however be effected after four days. This was provided to allow school children travel to their respective homes.

The four day grace period expired yesterday.

According the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda, the affected workers should liaise with Chief Admnistrative Officers of their respective districts, in conjunction with the respective district leaderships to come up with ways to guide the affected workers.

In a separate development, workers from Njeru, Buikwe district were stranded at the Nile Bridge after security put up roadblocks to prevent them from crossing to Jinja City.

Most of the people working in the new city commute from Njeru where accommodation is relatively cheaper compared to most of the areas across the bridge.

Only travelers with clearance and essential workers were being granted access to cross the bridge.
