Juliet Ssuubi Kinyamatama, the Rakai Woman MP and well-known political friend and ally of deputy speaker Jacob Oulanyah, has joined the race to unseat incumbent speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Kinyamatama becomes the fifth MP to express interest in the position of 11th Parliament speaker.
Others are Kadaga, who is seeking a third term at the helm of government’s legislative arm; her deputy Oulanyah, opposition chief whip and FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda; and DP’s Richard Ssebamala who defeated vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi in January 14 parliamentary elections.
Kinyamatama has insisted her political relationship with Oulanyah was not the motivation for joining the race.
She told reporters in Kampala on April 07 that she was serious about becoming speaker, had capacity to steer the House, and was confident of victory.
