Kabaka’s Namibia Visa Extension Request Denied – Reports

A request for the extension of Buganda Kingdom monarch Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s visa was unsuccessful, according to Namibia’s public broadcaster, Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). Namibia’s government declined an application for the Kabaka visa extension, the public broadcaster said.

In recent years, the Kabaka has had to fly out of his kingdom of Buganda and his country to seek treatment for what his prime minister Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga said were allergies.

In Namibia for treatment since April 2024, Kabaka Mutebi has spent months at a mental facility,  the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre. The Kabaka visa extension was filed by Dr Daleen de Lange, the executive director of the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre on July 09.

But when the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation sent a response to Dr de Lange’s letter, it was clear that the Kabaka’s visa would not be extended beyond the three months he has been in Namibia.

According to NBC, Penda Naanda, the Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, wrote back to de Lange of the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre that immigration laws, particularly Section nine of the Immigration Control Act of 1993, limit non-Namibians stay in the country to 90 days only.

“Given the above and having checked the records, I wish to inform you that the request for an extension for His Royal Highness Ronald Mutebi II, King of the Buganda Kingdom, is declined,” the public broadcaster quoted Naanda as stating in his letter to the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre.

It should be remembered that recently, Buganda Clan Heads or chiefs (Abataka) travelled to check on Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II in Namibia. But the abataka were blocking from proceeding to the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre, arrested and briefly detained.

President Yoweri Museveni has rebuked the bataka, telling them to stop embarrassing Uganda abroad. (Read Story Here).

On July 01, the Kabaka spoke out on his health condition and plans to return from Namibia. (See Details Here).
