Kyalya fundraising for 2021 presidential race

Former presidential candidate Maureen Kyalya is soliciting money for her 2021 bid.

Kyalya contested in the 2016 election that President Yoweri Museveni won.

She polled 40,598 or 0.44 per cent of the total valid votes.

In 2019, Kyalya announced she would stand for president again. She would stand as her party’s flag bearer.

She had hoped to register a party but has complained the Electoral Commission is yet to clear the new political organisation.

Her party’s name is the Uganda Tories. Its slogan is ‘Preserve Uganda to shine in unity through justice.’

Kyalya also hopes to raise Shs50m to cover her nomination fees and other campaign costs.

“I seek to be nominated in the forth coming presidential elections of Uganda and humbly pray for your financial and moral support in the next eight months of campaigns,” reads Kyalya’s appeal.

She adds that “Africa needs female presidents to reunify it, restore justice and stop inhuman and degrading treatment.”

“We need to build welfare, economic and healthcare structures. Without this money I can’t take part in the elections. Please help me.”

Over 40 aspirants have expressed interest in running for president.

The latest ‘high profile’ hopeful is Pastor Joseph Kabuleta.

But questions remain on the conduct of the elections due to Covid19 fears.

Political opposition groups have rejected proposed regulations for ‘scientific’ party primaries and campaign rallies.
