A district’s LC5 Chairman is the latest victim of road accidents in Uganda. Kamuli District LCV Charles Maxwell Mugude Kuwembula perished in a morning accident along the Gayaza-Kayunga Road.
The Thursday June 12, 2025 accident in which LCV Chairperson Charles Maxwell Mugude Kuwembula perished happened in Nakifuma in Mukono District at around 5am.
LC5 Chairman Maxwell Kuwembula is said to have doing a return journey from the capital Kampala when the accident that ended his life happened.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle in which Charles Maxwell Mugude Kuwembula was driving hit a stationary truck.
The Kamuli LC5 boss was driving a Toyota Hilux double cabin pickup truck that had been donated by the Ministry of Health during the Covid19 pandemic times.
Images shared online showed a shattered Toyota Hilux double cabin pickup truck.
The body of the Kamuli District Chairperson was transported to Kayunga Hospital mortuary.
Charles Maxwell Mugude Kuwembula was the incumbent Kamuli District LCV Chairperson having been elected to the position in 2021.
He had expressed interest in defending his position in the upcoming elections, first through the primaries of his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), and later through the local government polls in the 2026 general elections.
Police has reported an increase in the number of accidents in Uganda in recent years. A total of 25,107 accidents were reported in 2024, with up to 4,434 of them costing people’s lives while 13,134 were serious and 7,539 minor.
The death of Kamuli LCV boss Charles Maxwell Mugude Kuwembula in an accident followed that in which an ex-MP’s wife, and another in which a university student, perished, as reported Here, There and Over There.

Also, a few weeks ago, a car accident killed 13 people, most of them members of the same clan returning from a Kwanjula ceremony, as reported Here.
