Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is set to return home after spending about two weeks in the Kenyan capital Nairobi for treatment.
Towards the end of November, Lukwago flew to Nairobi for medical checkup and treatment.
When news of his journey broke, speculation on his health condition started.
But his deputy, Doreen Nyanjura, issued a statement, noting that Lukwago was suffering from acute anaphylaxis. But the situation was not as alarming as reported, added the deputy mayor.
At the weekend, rumors of his death started spreading online. Again Nyanjura dismissed them as false.
“The Lord Mayor is stable, he was discharged today [December 05] Morning and is traveling back on Monday. Omuloodi Waali [the Lord Mayor is going nowhere,” Nyanjura said.
Later, Lukwago confirmed he would be travelling to Kampala on December 07.
Hours before his return, the Lord Mayor praised top Kenyan and Ugandan doctors who worked tirelessly to save his life.
“The doctors were worried that it would result into a pulmonary clot which would have resulted in death. They have done all that is humanly possible to ensure that doesn’t happen and I thank them,” he said.
He has since listed some of them. They include:
Nairobi Hospital
Aga Khan Hospital
Mulago Hospital
Rubaga Hospital
