Lockdown or no lockdown? Museveni sets date for announcement of new Covid19 measures

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has set Sunday, June 06, as the date for a Covid19 address during which he will announce measures to prevent the spread of Covid19.

Days ago, Museveni addressed the nation on Covid19 second wave, sounding a warning to Ugandans to act or wait for the worst.

While some expected him to announce a lockdown last week, the president revealed he would return to give details of new measures after a Wednesday, June 02, meeting with the national Covid19 taskforce.

“I met the National Taskforce on COVID19 this afternoon at State House Entebbe,” Museveni noted.

“I will address the Nation on Sunday 6th June at 8 pm on the steps we have decided to take to curb the new wave.”

Sources that attended the Entebbe meeting say the taskforce recommended strict enforcement of standard operating procedures (SOPs), 7pm curfew, delayed reopening of classes that are yet to report back, and social distance and hygiene emphasis for public transport, among others.
