MBARARA GAS EXPLOSION: Fresh Details Emerge
Police has dismissed reports that an explosion which killed two people in Kisenyi, Mbarara City had been caused by a bomb.
According to Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira, the explosion was from a gas cylinder.
Kasasira said the identities of the deceased were not readily known.
“We have registered an incident of gas explosion in Kisenyi Mbarara City, which claimed lives of two people yet to be identified,” he said.
He also spoke about those injured in the explosion.
“Three people were left with serious injuries. They include Kamusiime Gashom and Tumwebaze John who are admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment,” said Kasasira.
The deceased had tried to cut a gas cylinder which exploded.
“It’s alleged the explosion happened at a scrap metal shop where they were trying to cut the gas cylinder. It exploded, killing the two instantly,” noted the regional police spokesperson.
“Our teams from Mbarara Central Police Station have cordoned off the scene and bodies of the deceased conveyed to Mbarara Referral Hospital for postmortem.”
