MP Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari
Deputy Inspector General of Government (D-IGG) Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe has written to Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari, the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) member representing entrepreneurs, demanding documents related to the purchase of land from Uganda Railways Corporation (URC).
Rukaari, also the Mbarara City North MP, bought three plots of URC land in Port Bell and Mulago at Shs357m.
The land was part of the 57 acres, worth Shs69.5bn, URC sold for re-capitalization purposes.
Yet Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprise (Cosase), chaired by Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi recently learnt that the money has never reached URC.
Now, deputy IGG has confirmed the inspectorate of government is investigating the MP and former ambassador over “illegal undertakings” stemming from “the allegation that you illegally acquired plots of land from Uganda Railways Corporation which caused financial loss to the Government of Uganda.”
“The Inspectorate of Government has taken interest in this matter and has commenced investigations,” Muhairwe wrote to Rukaari on November 30.
According to deputy IGG Muhairwe’s letter, Rukaari should have furnished the inspectorate of government with copies of his applications for land at URC, sales agreements, receipts or proof of purchase payment, evidence of ownership of the plots, aand any other documents that relate to the land purchase.
The IGG’s office has promised the parties involved “an expeditious and fair investigation.”
