Muhammad Ssegirinya’s Heart is Still Beating – Rubaga Hospital Boss

Dr Sr Grace Nanyondo, the acting Executive Director of Rubaga Hospital where Muhammad Ssegirinya is being admitted, says the Kawempe North MP is still alive, but critically sick. 

She spoke alongside leader of opposition in parliament Joel Ssenyonyi who checked on Ssegirinya to confirm his health status following a Thursday, January 09 2025 announcement that he was dead.

Dr Sr Grace Nanyondo said Ssegirinya needed “our love and prayers” at this time when he is in critical condition, and admitted in Intensive Care Unit.

Ssegirinya still has a pulse, slight as it maybe. In simple terms, his heart is still beating, and with that, the doctors cannot simply declare him dead, since that would be unethical.

“The interface we have had with doctors, they have told us that what is still in place is a very slight pulse because he is on a vent, on a machine,” said Ssenyonyi, urging Ugandans to keep Ssegirinya in prayers because “there is a God in heaven.”

Speaker Anita Among has given a similar update on Ssegirinya’s health condition, saying doctors attending to him had said his organs are failing, but his heart was still active.

Members will be notified on any developments in due course, Parliament of Uganda said in a short statement posted on microblogging site X, formerly Twitter. 

“Dear Countrymen and Women, After consulting with the doctors, we have been informed that our brother, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya still has a pulse, confirming that he is alive,” wrote Speaker Anita Among. “I ask you all to pray for him. May the Almighty Allah have mercy on him and grant him healing!”
