President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former ethics and integrity Minister Fr Simon Lokodo, former Sheema District Woman MP Jacklet Atuhaire, former Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (Ccedu) coordinator Crispin Kaheru and Kampala opposition politician Shifra Lukwago as Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) commissioners.
Museveni dropped Lokodo from cabinet.
Atuhaire also lost her Sheema MP seat to former legislator Rosemary Nyakikongoro.
Lokodo, Atuhaire, Kaheru and Lukwago will undergo parliamentary Appointments Committee vetting on Wednesday, August 25, after which, if approved, will become commissioners of UHRC, a government body mandated to monitor and advance human rights in the country.
Also being vetted on August 25 is their boss Mariam Wangadya.
“The Appointments Committee is scheduled to interact with these presidential nominees on Wednesday August, 25, 2021 at 10am in the Conference Hall , Parliament House,” read part of a notice by clerk to parliament Adolf Mwesige.
