Lt Gen Sam Kavuma
Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, the Ugandan president and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has promoted Major General Sam Kavuma to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Museveni also appointed now Lt Gen Sam Kavuma the new Force Commander African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Lt Gen Sam Kavuma will now replace Lieutenant General Samuel Okiding, who Museveni appointed the appointed Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (D-CDF).
UPDF and defence ministry spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has confirmed the promotion and deployment of Lt Gen Sam Kavuma.
“The President and Commander in Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces has appointed and promoted Major General Sam Kavuma to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him the new Force Commander of African Union Transition Union Mission in Somalia,” said Kulayigye in a statement.
“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF fraternity congratulate the General officer upon a well-deserved promotion and appointment.”
Last week, Museveni also promoted his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba the CDF, replacing Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi. He also dropped Lt Gen Peter Elwelu from his position as D-CDF, consoling him with a presidential advisor job. (Read Story Here).
