Museveni sworn in for sixth term; journey to 40 years in power on
President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has taken oath as president of Uganda for a sixth successive elective five-year term.
Museveni took oath at exactly 11:35 through 11:36am at the Kololo Independence Grounds in the capital Kampala.
Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo administered the oath after Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama confirmed Museveni’s election.
CJ Owiny-Dollo then handed Museveni instruments of power, including the flag, coat of arms, and seal.
Museveni, in power since 1986 when he ascended after a five-year bush war, will have led Uganda for four decades at the end of his new term in 2026.
