Museveni
President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has told Ugandans to eat cassava if they cannot find bread.
Delivering his remarks to Ugandans during Labour Day Celebrations held at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala on May 01, President Museveni told Ugandans that cassava was a better alternative to scarce or expensive bread.
““If there is no bread eat mwogo [cassava]. Africans really confuse themselves. You are complaining that there is no bread or wheat, please eat mwogo,” said the 77-year-old leader.
“I don’t eat bread myself”
The president blamed the high prices of commodities on the Covid19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The issue of skyrocketing commodity prices like petrol, fertilizers, among other essential commodities are man-made by our friends in Europe. We are trying to talk to them quietly,” he said.
He went on to say that he was not worried by the skyrocketing prices even when the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that the rise in prices could cause social unrest.
“I am not worried. We shall find solutions. We are quietly talking to Western Europe and Russia. We shall brief you Ugandans about what we are doing at the right time,” noted the president.
