Museveni’s NRM humbles Bobi Wine’s NUP in Youth MP elections

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has swept youth parliamentary elections across the country, winning all the five seats.

Ugandan youths have five representatives in parliament.

Phionah Nyamutoro is the national youth MP. She was elected weeks ago.

On February 01, Edson Rugumayo beat other five contestants to win the western Uganda youth MP seat, in a contest at Mbarara City’s Ntare School.

Rugumayo garnered 1,419 votes, ahead of minister Beti Kamya’s son Arnold Patrick Turwomwe who got 402, Edwin Muramuzi (independent) with 41, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Denmark Adios Beineomugisha who polled 26, National Unity Platform (NUP)’s James Kamukama who managed 03, while former Makerere Guild President Paul Kato got none.

In Central Uganda, Agnes Kirabo garnered 780 votes to beat former Makerere Guild President Ivan Bwowe (independent) who got 85 votes, ahead of Michael Katongole with 75 votes and Simon Sennyonga with 49 votes.

Abdel Kareem Ziritwawula and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party’s Gyaviira Kasumba managed nine votes, each.

Joe Javiira got two while Alvin Semmamba trailed with one vote.

It should be remembered that NUP candidate Moses Kasule had been disqualified from the race after he was seconded by a ‘ghost’ delegate (non-delegate) in an election held at Mubende National Teachers’ College.

Eastern Uganda

• Bernard Odoi Onen Mutusa (NRM): 967 votes
• Sumayyah Aliza Balunywa (Independent): 448 votes

Northern Uganda

• Boniface Henry Okot (NRM): 1,280 votes
• Boniface Young (NUP): 104 votes
• Daniel Obal (independent): 75 votes
• Kelvin Ocaya (ANT): 10
• Patrick Odero (FDC): 03
