A Nile Star Bus has been involved in a terrible accident. Several people are feared dead in the accident that happened on the early hours of Monday, May 04, 2026.
The bus is said to have set from Arua City at about 9pm on Sunday, May 03, 2026, and was headed to the capital Kampala. Hours later, at about 1am, the Nile Star bus was involved in an accident.
The accident happened between Pakwach and Karuma near Parongo Trading Centre, according to reports.
It involved a heavy truck. The collision between the two vehicles left some people dead and several others injures, with the injured, some in critical condition after sustaining serious injuries, rushed to different hospital for treatment.
Authorities from traffic police were yet to confirm the number of people killed in the terrible accident between the Nile Star bus and heavy truck.
According to the 2025 Police Annual Crime Report, 322,441 traffic cases were recorded in 2025, compared to 426,432 in 2024, marking a 24.4 per cent decrease.
The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety also registered 26,044 road crashes in 2025, with 4,602 of these being fatal, 13,563 serious, and 7,879 minor.
Despite the drop in overall traffic cases, road accidents increased by 3.7 per cent in 2025 compared to 2024. Serious crashes rose by 3.3 per cent, from 13,134 in 2024 to 13,563 in 2025. Fatal crashes increased by 3.8 percent, from 4,434 to 4,602, while minor crashes went up by 4.5 per cent, from 7,539 in 2024 to 7,879 in 2025.
Recent bus accidents include one where 11 people were killed on Masaka Road, one in Kiryandongo and another involving a Tausi bus, as reported Here, There and There.
Other terrible accidents involving private cars and taxis, included one in Kabwohe where six people coming from an overnight were knocked dead, one that killed an LCV chairperson, and another that killed eight people in Kiruhura, as reported Here, There and Over There.
