O-LEVEL RESULTS RELEASE: Uneb Breaks Silence on Reports of ‘Lost 2022 UCE Results Due to System Hacking’

Assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has spoken out on reports that results for the 2022 end of O-level, the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, have been lost after its system was allegedly hacked into by unscrupulous people.

A statement fabricated to appear like it was published via Uneb’s Twitter account carried a message in which the authors claimed that the examinations body’s system had been hacked into but there was allegedly a process to restore the system.

The worry part in the fabricated statement — perhaps one which the authors hoped to use to cause panic among parents, candidates and schools — was the possibility that the results would not be retrieved, and in that case, Uneb would use Mock results.

“We were recently hacked and lost the 2022 UCE results. We are doing our best to retrieve them back but if it fails, we shall be forced to use the mock results of the students. We apologize for any inconvenience,” read the statement that had been making rounds on social media.

UNEB SPEAKS OUT

But Uneb, through its Principal Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Jennifer Kalule Musamba, has dismissed the claims, flagging the tweet in question ‘fake.’

“Please disregard news making rounds on social media, indicating that the UNEB ‘system” was recently hacked into, and that the 2022 UCE results were ‘lost”. The information is fake and baseless,” said Kalule.

The Uneb spokesperson further made it clear than no UCE results had been lost, and that the release will happen at “the appropriate time.”

“We would like to assure the public that the #UCE2022 results are in safe custody, and will be released at the appropriate time,” she said.

It should be remembered that Uneb released the 2022 PLE results at the end of last month.
