It was all joy and thanksgiving as Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere celebrated him 90th birthday.
A respected opposition leader who only exited the political stage with the rise of Dr Kizza Besigye, Ssemwogerere is one of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s main critics in the last three decades.
He is a member of the Democratic Party (DP), one of Uganda’s oldest political organizations.
Several respected opposition leaders attended Ssemwogerere’s birthday party.
These included Dr Besigye, his deputy and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and ANT leader Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu, among others.
“It was a great moment today, celebrating 90th Birthday of Uganda’s political veteran and an icon of principled pursuit of a democratic transition,” said Dr Besigye after the celebration.
“Still sharp minded, articulate and remarkably strong, in spite of recent health challenges. Happy 90th birthday!”
