Police has denied arresting National Unity Platform NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Police in the island district of Kalangala, but confirmed driving him to his home in Wakiso District’s Magere.
Bobi Wine was set to campaign in Kalangala but police blocked his rally for flouting Covid19 prevention and Electoral Commission (EC) guidelines.
But Bobi Wine’s supporters quickly spread reports that the presidential candidate had been arrested.
Now, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has said Bobi Wine is under arrest, saying officers had offered to drive him to his home in Magere.
“Please disregard false claims by NUP and other social media platforms that Hon.Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert has been arrested, while on his campaign trail in Kalangala District,” said Enanga.
“We would like to clarify that the candidate was restrained for continuously holding massive rallies amidst the increased threats of coronavirus, in total disregard of the Electoral commission and Ministry of Health guidelines. He’s being transferred to his home in Magere.”
