A female Ugandan singer has passed on today, Thursday, September 29, 2022, leaving her family, friends and tears.
The deceased singer was travelling with other artistes when a road accident that claimed her life took place, ending her life and cutting short her promising career.
Musician Grace Batwire aka Lady Grace, who was popularly known as Layira, was pronounced dead following a car accident in Semuto in the Central Uganda District of Nakaseke.
Lady Grace is well known for her song titled ‘Layira’ which she did with an artiste named Izon T.
Other singers involved in the accident included Ronald Alimpa, the musician famous for his ‘Olusuku lwa Cement’ song, and a one Ragga Fire, who sustained serious injuries and remain admitted in hospital.
Road accidents in Uganda have increased in recent months. Just a few months ago, a former MP perished on the Northern Bypass. (Read Story Here).
According to the latest traffic report by the Uganda Police Force (UPF), a little over 17,000 accidents were recorded in 2021, about 5,000 higher than in the previous year (2020) when 12,000 accidents were registered.
The police traffic report further indicated that 4,159 people perished in road accidents in the year 2021, a few hundreds more than the 3,663 who died in 2020. These road accidents left 13,876 people with injuries that disrupted their lives.
