REVEALED: ADF Operative Arrested Two Days Before Munyonyo Bomb Explosion

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) arrested an ADF operative two days before the Munyonyo bomb explosion, it has emerged.

A bomb explosion near the Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine killed a suspected female suicide bomber and the person riding her on a bodaboda. More details continue to emerge on the bomb explosion.

Acting UPDF and defence spokesperson Col Chris Magezi now says that an operative for the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an affiliate of the Islamic State terror group, had been arrested two days before the incident.

Col Magezi said that while UPDF had intelligence reports on a planned terror attack, the arrested ADF operative confirmed what they already knew.

Magezi further noted that suspected suicide bomber Aisha Katushabe aka Kabonesa had been profiled two years before the Munyonyo incident but was only interrogated and profiled because there wasn’t enough evidence to enable a conviction in courts of law.

He also revealed that the arrested ADF operative had told them that Katushabe would be part of the terror attack.

The UPDF knew that the terrorists would strike, Magezi further revealed, but it was not clear how many would be involved and when exactly they would strike.

What the UPDF did, the acting UPDF spokesperson noted in an interview, was to deploy anti-terrorism teams and other security operatives at the martyrs’ shrines.
