The police officer who punched main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has been identified as Elias Kaino Twesigye.
Twesigye is a sworn member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
He had expressed interest in the Rubabo County (Rukungiri District) parliamentary seat on the NRM ticket, but pulled out of the race.
He is now the OC station for Mpigi Police.
On January 10, Twesigye was involved in the violent arrest of Amuriat in Mpigi.
He was captured boxing the presidential candidate during the arrest.
Amuriat also attempts to fight back.
Prior to his arrest, Amuriat had campaigned at Bunjako Landing Site, and in Buwama Rural Sub County of Mpigi District.
He spent the night in Mpigi Central Police Station cells.
