President Museveni and Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga
Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga, one of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s most trusted generals, has explained his decision to block a local school in Kabarole District from using a road that passes in his land.
Writing from his village of Nyamirima, Rurama Parish, Rutete Sub-county in Kabarole District on January 14, Maj Gen Muhanga Kayanja informed the director of Nyamirima School of his intention “to close the road to your school that passes in my land.”
In his letter, Maj Gen Muhanga, a brother to journalist Andrew Mwenda and junior minister Margaret Muhanga, gave reasons why he wanted the road blocked.
Currently commanding Operation Shujaa, an offensive against ADF rebels in the jungles of DR Congo, the general listed security threats as one of the reasons behind his decision.
He said he had “seriously considered my security as a serving general in the UPDF due to the prevailing threats.”
The general did not give details on the nature of his security concerns.
Muhanga also told the Nyamirima School director he wanted to put his land to more use.
“I also want to fully utilize this land to the benefit of my people,” he noted.
He also complained of the dust from the road. “The dust that your vehicles transporting materials is causing health hazards to my family and visitors.”
Maj Gen Muhanga now wants the school to stop using the road by January 28.
“By this notification therefore, I give the school a period of two weeks to have repaired the road you initially used to construct your school,” he concluded.
