Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni of Uganda
Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda, has spoken out on the arrest of Victoria University vice chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga for reportedly spying on Uganda.
Joint security forces kidnapped Dr Muganga from his office in Kampala on September 02.
UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso said Muganga faced charges of espionage and illegal stay in Uganda.
The academic was released September 03 night after his family and lawyers piled pressure on security agencies and government to produce him in court dead or alive.
Now, speaking for the first time about the matter, President Kagame told Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) that Kampala had continued to make outrageous allegations against Kigali.
President Kagame said he wouldn’t be surprised if Uganda blamed Rwanda for the Covid19 pandemic.
“It has become a trend for Uganda to blame Rwanda for anything, even for things that are totally unrelated. Don’t be surprised if they blame Rwanda for Covid19,” said Kagame.
He went on to accuse Kampala of continuously mistreating Rwandans, and for reportedly not being committed to resolve the crisis between the two brotherly countries.
“It takes two to tango. If you look at how Ugandans in Rwanda are treated, it is totally different from how Rwandans are treated in Uganda,” Kagame said.
“We have engaged Uganda on several occasions in vain. How the issue ends is really not in our control.”
Kigali and Kampala have had strained relations in recent days, with the former even closing her border points with the latter.
