The Ministry of Education and Sports has recommended a staggered manner of school reopening under which different classes attend on alternate days.
This proposal was presented to the Covid19 National Taskforce by Education Minister Janet Museveni during a meeting to discuss school reopening.
According to Education Ministry Spokesperson Dr Dennis Mugimba, each of the reporting classes will study for at least three days ever week — but the number of days could be reduced or increased since these are just proposals.
The school study week will be extended to include Saturdays.
“What does [reopening in a] staggered [manner] mean? It means in a school, learners can be reporting on alternate days,” explained Dr Mugimba.
“Some classes, for example, if we reopen with P1 to P3 or P4, we can say that from P1 to P2, report on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; P3 and P4, report on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.”
A committee chaired by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and including Janet Museveni’s education and sports ministry as well as Dr Jane Ruth Aceng’s Ministry of Health, will meet next week to propose reopening dates and modalities.
