As calls for the release of a revised school calendar to inform reopening, the Ministry of Education and Sports has reportedly proposed January 03, 2022 as the reporting for all learners at all levels of education.
Schools have been closed for about 20 months since March 2020 when Uganda recorded her first Covid19 case.
Some classes such as Primary One, Two and Three have not stepped in class for almost two years.
In his most recent address, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said schools would reopen in January 2022 — and so would all other sectors of the economy, besides education.
But the education ministry, headed by first lady Janet Museveni, is yet to release a revised school calendar.
Hours to her consultative meeting with MPs on school reopening, Ms Museveni postponed the interaction to a yet-to-be-communicated date.
Now, government newspaper The New Vision has quoted a well-placed source in the education ministry as confirming to have seen a draft revised school calendar which shows that all classes would report on January 03.
“Yes, the Ministry of Education and Sports has concluded its plan on reopening. The tentative date is January 3, 2022. This is what the tentative calendar reads,’ the official has been quoted as saying.
This means that parents and school owners have about one month left to prepare for school reopening.
But the January 03 date could be pushed forward
