The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced that all unvaccinated teachers and students aged 18 and above will be blocked from accessing school premises.
Ugandan schools are expected to fully reopen in January 2022 after almost two years of closure due to the Covid19 pandemic.
Uganda’s minister for higher education recently revealed the exact school reopening date.
Now, education ministry spokesperson Dr Denis Mugimba has revealed that parents will be required to buy face masks for their children.
Schools will also be expected to ensure that washing facilities are in place on their premises.
Dr Mugimba has also put emphasis on what awaits unvaccinated teachers and students above 18.
“Institutions should ensure that there are washing facilities as schools plan to open in January 2022 however parents should be in position to avail masks to the students and teachers who have not been vaccinated will not be allowed in schools,” said Mugimba during a press conference at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala today.
He also assured education stakeholders that “all preparations to open schools are ongoing at the Ministry of Education and Sports,” making it clear that “as President Museveni said, the economy is fully opening in January.”
