Man sells Nsenene or grasshoppers on Uganda Airlines
While Paul Mubiru, the man recorded vending nsenene (grasshoppers) aboard a Uganda Airlines flight UR 446 setting off for Dubai, had apologized, police has gone ahead and arrested him.
The arrest of Mubiru comes days after a video of him vending nsenene went viral online.
The video made Uganda Airlines announce it would add nsenene to its menu.
In his apology to the national airline, Mubiru said he had recorded the video for TikTok.
“I am sorry to the fellow countrymen and women, staff of Uganda Airlines, passengers and everyone hurt by the act on board,” Mubiru was quoted as saying.
“I recorded that video in question not to tarnish or [embarrass] the airline but for comedy purposes specifically for TikTok.”
But now, Uganda Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has confirmed Mubiru’s arrest by Aviation security officers.
Mubiru was arrested with Habib Kiggundu, the man who recorded the video.
“Whereas the grasshoppers are not prohibited on the airline, the two went ahead and open a polyethene bag where they started vending the insects. This aroused excitement among other passengers but also disrupted others,” said Enanga, adding that Mubiru had defied orders from flight attendants who had told him to stop vending nsenene.
“They posed safety risks when they spoke on top of their voices after removing masks. They have been charged with being common nuisances, disobeying lawful instructions and negligent behaviour likely to cause the spread of an infectious disease.”
