Shock as Ugandan Doctor Claims He Cures HIV/AIDS with Onion Medicine, Lands in Trouble

A Ugandan doctor has landed in trouble with the National Drug Authority (NDA) and Uganda Police Force (UPF) for claiming that he would, among others, cure HIV/AIDS with his onion medicine.

Police and NDA enforcement officials arrested Dr David Ssali for allegedly making misleading treatment claims, including HIV/AIDS cure.

NDA said Dr Ssali was found in possession of several unauthorized medicines.

The human drugs watchdog’s spokesperson Abiaz Rwamwiri claimed that the arrest of Ssali had been informed by public outcry on the claims that he can cure HIV/AIDS as well as intelligence reports by security officers.

The doctor is accused of flouting provisions of the NDA Act. He is also accused of running a herbal clinic in a shabby environment. Rwamwiri also claimed that Ssali was not licensed to run a herbal clinic.

The other accusations relate to Dr Ssali’s other medicines – or concoctions – numbering over 20, which NDA says were not approved for human use.

The doctor got into trouble after a TikTok video in which he was seen claiming that his herbal concoction that had onions had healed a man in China of HIV/AIDS.

NDA argues that Ssali’s claims are misleading and could put the health of Ugandans and other people at risk.

It should be remembered that NDA has always cautioned Ugandans against use of herbal medicine. For example, NDA warned Ugandans against use of Covidex, a Covid19 herbal drug by Prof Patrick Ogwang. Even President Museveni himself was dared the Covidex maker to use his medicine to cure himself of Covid19 first before it could be given to Ugandans. (See Details Here and There).
