Switzerland Crush Northern Ireland in Group C World Cup Qualifiers

Switzerland beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in their in their World Cup qualifying group.

This win means that Switzerland are second in their group.

The two goals came from Steven Zuber as well as from Christian Fassnacht, who came through as a substitute.

Northern Ireland had been reduced to 10 men by the time the goals came through in stoppage time of both halves.  

Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic had given Northern Ireland’s Jamal Lewis a second yellow card after the defender delayed a throw-in in the 37th minute.

The Swiss had made 25 attempts, with only seven on target.

Italy, the group leaders, are three points ahead of Switzerland.

Switzerland has a chance to match up Italy’s points on Tuesday if they win their game against Lithuania.

On Saturday, Lithuania beat Bulgaria 3-1.
