President Lukashenko Announces Prigozhin-Putin Deal

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has successfully brokered a deal that has seen Wagner PMC Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin agree to end his outfit’s ‘march to justice’ military coup against strongman Vladimir Putin.

According to Lukashenko, Prigozhin’s decision to end the insurrection was aimed at avoiding a bloodbath that would have happened if Wagner mercenary group’s troops had marched to take over Moscow, a move that would most likely have seen Putin use as much force as he could have mustered to defend his grip on the throne.

The deal, a result of the day-long negotiations, will save Prigozhin’s men from prosecution for treason over his mutiny, among other security guarantees for him and his troops.

“Yevgeny Prigozhin accepted the proposal of President Alexander Lukashenko to stop the movement of armed men of Wagner in Russia and take further steps to de-escalate tension,” Lukashenko’s office said in a statement.

Prigozhin has been quoted by RT as saying that “the advancing Wagner’s advancing columns will return to their camps according to plan.”

The fighters of the private military outfit will now return to their base camps after shaking Putin by taking control of a number of military and administrative sites in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don.

Prigozhin said they were only 200km away from Moscow.

“They wanted to disband PMC Wagner. On June 23, we went on a March of Justice in a day. We advanced on Moscow just 200km short, and during this time we did not shed a single drop of the blood of our fighters,” he said.
