THEY WANT TO KILL ME: Panic as ‘Tired’ Security Officers Group Threatens to Kill MP if She Doesn’t Pay Them Shs10m in Three Days

A Ugandan opposition MP has reported death threats from a rogue group of ‘tired’ security officers. In an anonymous letter, the group gave the female lawmaker three days within which to pay them Shs10m or wait to take four bullets.

Uganda Police Force (UPF) Spokesperson Fred Enanga said that the joint security teams have acknowledged receipt an anonymous letter attributed to the Association of Tired Officers in Uniform (ATOU) which was sent to Mityana District Woman MP Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa. The group threatened to kill Bagala with four bullets if she doesn’t pay them Shs10m within three days running from May 20 to May 23.

That ATOU comprises tired police and army officers pushing for the improvement of their welfare by threatening MPs to either handle their matter. They want their salaries increased and their working environment improved.

The association has warned that if Parliament doesn’t improve their welfare then MPs will be harmed.

Enanga said security agencies were still unable to confirm the authenticity of the anonymous letter and are still jointly investigating its origin. He added that they take threats against life seriously and would do everything humanly possible to ensure that the law makers are secure and that all threats against MPs are appropriately countered.

Already, Enanga continued, Parliamentary Police has been empowered with tools to probe threats, generate security threats for Parliament and take threat reduction measures for all MPs. He also called for more vigilant and take security precautions, as well as change their routines and movements to make them unpredictable.

“We would like to warn the alleged disgruntled officers who could be behind these anonymous threats that it is an offence to threaten lawmakers and all the joint security agencies have administrative protocols of addressing concerns of welfare, payment and any other challenge.”
He warned that the officers who will be arrested will be charged with threatening to kill a law maker.
The threats against Bagala come a few weeks after a low-paid UPDF officer shot dead a Museveni minister. A police officer also killed an Indian money lender while a poorly paid Judiciary driver threatened to kill a High Court judge over his Shs235K. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
